2007-08 Topps Letterman Autographed Patch Refractors #d /15

January 14, 2009

One of the latest trends in the trading cards hobby is the creation of a “manufactured patch”. As opposed to a “real” patch which comes from a game- or event-worn jersey, a manufactured patch is specially created by trading card companies for their products.

When Topps released the 2007-08 Topps Letterman product last July 2008, the manufactured letter patches which spell a player’s name were a hit among collectors. Immediately, collectors want to spell-out their names too from the cards. I was one of the many who jumped on the bandwagon.

As my real name is very long, I decided to just use my nickname which is composed of only three letters. Since there are a lot of variations of the letter patches, I also decided to collect the autographed refractor version which is serial numbered to only 15 copies. The players signed their autograph on the patch itself.

2007-08 Topps Letterman Patches Autographs Refractors #BG Ben Gordon #d/ 15  - card books $30

2007-08 Topps Letterman Patches Autographs Refractors #DW Dominique Wilkins #d /15 - card books $60

Here’s my nickname spelled from all the cards.

Another great way to enjoy the hobby. Cool eh?
