Shaquille O’Neal Named to His 15th All-Star Game

January 30, 2009

The “Big Cactus” of the Phoenix Suns was named as one of the reserves for the Western conference team for the NBA 2009 All-Star Game to be held in Phoenix’ home court, the US Airways Center on February 15, 2009 (February 16 here in the Philippines).

Shaquille O’Neal has now made it to 15 All-Star games in 17 NBA seasons. The only times he had not played in the event were last season (he was suffering from various injuries and was having the worst year of his playing career) and in the 1998-99 season (there was no All-Star game due to a lockout-shortened season).  In the process, he broke a tie with Michael Jordan and Karl Malone for the most selections in NBA history. He now only trails Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 19.

Manny Pacquiao - Ricky Hatton Bout Tale of the Tape

January 24, 2009

Even though Ricky Hatton had not signed the contract yet, his bout with Manny Pacquiao is already considered set as Manny already accepted a 52-48 split of the fight revenue in his favor. This is considerably lower than the 60-40 share he is originally asking. The fight is set on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Texas, USA.

Here’s the tale of the tape for the two fighters courtesy of fightfan.com

Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton Bout Already Set

In a report by Dyan Castillejo last night at ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, Manny Pacquiao confirmed,

The fight is on!

It was also the same exact words uttered by promoter Bob Arum after Manny signed the contract last night for his May 2 bout with Ricky Hatton. That officially ended weeks of negotiations between the two camps.

1996-97 Fleer Rookie Sensations Kobe Bryant

January 22, 2009

Kobe Bryant is one of the most popular players in the NBA today due to his on-court prowess and charismatic appeal. He was also named as the Most Valuable Player last season while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.

In the sports trading cards hobby, his cards are one of the most-sought after by collectors and usually command top dollar especially his autographed cards and rookie cards.

Today is my 1st Blogversary!

January 17, 2009

To celebrate the first anniversary or blogversary (in the blogging world lingo) of this blog site, this post is all about reminiscing what have transpired over the past year.

As an NBA fanatic with Shaquille O’Neal as my favorite player, it’s a no-brainer that my first-ever post on this site is related to them. That post was the beginning of my journey to rediscover my passion for writing. Although I don’t write daily, I’m still amazed to know that in 365 days, I have written 65 posts. That’s an average of about 1 post every 5.6 days or roughly once every week. Not bad I think considering that I get to write only once or twice every issue when I was the editor-in-chief for our school paper during my elementary and secondary days.

Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili… and Rufa Mae Quinto S*x Scandal

January 15, 2009

UPDATE 5/17/09: The videos are finally out!

Check it out here and see for yourself:

Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili Scandal Videos Now Out

====================================

I was tuning in this morning at DZRH on the way to one of our candidate recipient schools when the showbiz news came in with Manay Lolit Solis at the helm. Her news was about the alleged s*x scandal between Dr. Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili. Pero hindi lang pala si Katrina ang involve dahil marami na rin palang mga sikat na personalities na “tinuhog” ito si Hayden. At kasama nga doon si Rufa Mae Quinto.

2007-08 Topps Letterman Autographed Patch Refractors #d /15

January 14, 2009

One of the latest trends in the trading cards hobby is the creation of a “manufactured patch”. As opposed to a “real” patch which comes from a game- or event-worn jersey, a manufactured patch is specially created by trading card companies for their products.

When Topps released the 2007-08 Topps Letterman product last July 2008, the manufactured letter patches which spell a player’s name were a hit among collectors. Immediately, collectors want to spell-out their names too from the cards. I was one of the many who jumped on the bandwagon.

January 13, 2009

Upper Deck’s NBA Exquisite Collection line of trading cards is one of the most expensive products in the sports trading cards hobby today. One pack which contains 5 cards costs $500! So it is a joy for me to assemble this mini-set of the 2006-07 edition of the Exquisite Collection cards of Deron Williams. D-Will is an NBA player from the Utah Jazz and one of the most exciting young players in the NBA today with his excellent playmaking and scoring skills.

My NBA Trading Cards Hobby

January 7, 2009

A sports trading card is a small piece of cardboard (or wood, metal or glass) which usually contains image of a particular sports player. Along with the image might be an autograph, piece of jersey, ball, bat or other item depending on the kind of sports. It might also contain statistics and some information about the player or team featured. Trading cards also hold some value depending on its rarity, condition and the player featured. Their values are listed at price guides like that of Beckett. They may be worthless to some, but hold value to us collectors.

Below are sample pictures of trading cards. They are some of the autographed and jersey cards of the player I collect, Shaquille O’Neal. They are part of my collection.

My Amateur Lens: Fireworks

January 1, 2009

I welcomed the New Year at my wife’s place at Gen. Santos City. Last night, we had fun playing parlor games and singing with my newly-bought Wow! Magic Sing videoke gadget. When the clock ticked 12:00 midnight, the whole place was in revelry welcoming the year 2009. Since we only have little firecrackers and fireworks, we contented ourselves in watching our neighbors light theirs. Using the fireworks mode of my digicam, I caught these images.
