Our Wedding Chronicles: The Wedding

December 23, 2008

NOTE: I’m making a series of blogs narrating the events last year that led to our wedding on December 22, 2007. I’m making this to share to others and for me and my wife to always remember how we became hitched to each other. This is the fifth blog in the series.

Yesterday was our 1st wedding anniversary but was not able to post this to coincide with that date because we were at Cagayan de Oro City for our white water rafting adventure.

We selected Archbishop Gerard Mongeau Chapel inside Notre Dame University as the place for the wedding because we want the wedding to be really an event where our families and friends can get together in a solemn and exclusive celebration of love. We don’t want a church because the visitors will have a tendency to sit in their own groups and be separated from the others due to the big cavernous space available. On the other hand, the small area a chapel offers will bring the crowd closer to each other, hence, there’s a more sense of bonding and unity.

After our photo shoot, Wendy and I arrived together at the chapel at around 9:00 AM and met Fr. Don at the back and we each had a confession. The usherettes meanwhile were busy preparing and ushering the guests who have already started coming in droves.

They also distributed our wedding liturgy to guests.

The choir had arrived after a while and took their seats behind the organist, Mr. Rey Catulong. Sir Rey is my former high school teacher at Notre Dame of Kabacan. The choir on the other hand is composed of my former colleagues at Notre Dame of Midsayap College. The lead singer is Abs, a neighbor and friend at our home in Kabacan. As soon as everything was ready, the commentator Mr. Ricky Dalida made the visitors aware that the ceremony was to begin. Sir Ricky is also my former teacher at NDK.

My best man, my brother Macoy walked the aisle first followed by me and my father. Abs sang “All My Life” by K-C and Jojo to Sir Rey’s organ accompaniment while we were walking. The song was played until all the principal and liturgical sponsors and bridal entourage have finished walking the aisle.

When the flower girls entered, Abs and Sir Rey started playing our theme song, “I Could Not Ask for More” by Edwin McCain.

The mass was celebrated by Fr. Mamerto Garcia, OMI. According to him, it was his first wedding at that chapel.
