Our Wedding Chronicles: Engagement Ring
December 6, 2008NOTE: I’m making a series of blogs narrating the events last year that led to our wedding on December 22, 2007. I’m making this to share to others and for me and my wife to always remember how we became hitched to each other. This is the second blog in the series.
It was during Ate May Ann’s (Wendy’s friend) wedding January of last year when our intention of getting married was first publicly announced. It started when the couple asked who among the crowd plans to tie vows within the year. Our friends started pointing at us and so we were called in front and were made to do what the couple did like slicing the cake, wine drinking and kissing the bride. It was some sort of “practice” for our actual wedding.
When I was younger, I said to myself that I will settle down in marriage only when I reach the age of 30. But after that event, I realized that “this is it!” It was originally only an intention and not a definite plan yet but it was already announced kaya ito na, wala nang atrasan ito, hehe.. Besides, I thought that I already found the perfect girl for me in Wendy, so the decision was not hard at all for me. Wendy and I finalized the date of the wedding on December 22, 2007. That date marked the third anniversary of us being lovers.
We decided that we split the wedding expenses 80/20, 80% was mine. To prepare for that, starting February, I deposited 65% of my salary to our joint bank account while 30% for Wendy’s. We also deposited our bonuses so that by December, we have amassed around P150,000. Hmmm, not bad huh? Our expenses ultimately ballooned to more than P200,000 but luckily, we got friends and relatives who shelled some dough.
Anyway, when you and partner are already engaged to be married, what is the best way to express it to all? Of course, through an engagement ring. We visited jewelry shops in Cotabato City and Gen. Santos City but couldn’t find one to our liking. O kaya naman eh masyado’ng mahal, hehe.. On June 7, 2007, we finally found one na pasok sa budget ko at maganda sa Davao City. Here it is:
The ring has 24 diamonds circling a larger one set at the center. That’s 25 diamonds in all.
Here’s a closer look:
I spent a small fortune for it but that’s nothing when you think that you are giving it to the most wonderful person in your life.
Our pamanhikan followed exactly 4 months later.

@jenn - you’re right girl! It really is more beautiful in person.
And by purchasing from online stores you do not have to compromise with the quality of the stone also. But before purchasing your ring make sure that the company you selected is popular and credible.

Those are beautiful rings. ^^ The pictures don’t exactly do justice to the diamonds, though, I’m sure! (must be shinier!)
