How to Download YouTube Videos
September 30, 2008So, almost one month had already passed without me posting here. Well, I have been just too busy doing other things. But I can’t pass September without me posting even just one blog so here I am.
Anyways, I’m a techie guy so I think it’s time for me to share some of my technical know-hows in the field of Information Technology.
I have known many people who think that they can’t download videos from YouTube. All they know is that you can just watch the movies but you can’t download them and save to your computer. Of course we can! In fact, there are countless ways. I’m sharing the two ways I frequently use.
The first one is the one I’m using ALMOST all of the time, through DownloadHelper. You have to be a Firefox user though before you can utilize this as this is an add-on for that browser. I don’t know why you are still using Internet Explorer but if you still are, dump that crap and download the Firefox browser here. You can then download DownloadHelper here.
After installation, that add-on will be integrated in your browser with its icon located at the right side of the address bar.
When you go to YouTube, that icon will start to animate telling you that you can now download that video.

Take note though that the file downloaded has an extension of .flv so you have to have an FLV player to play the video. Download one here.
Of course you can convert an flv file to avi, mpeg, mp4 or any other video formats but that’s for another post.
The second one I’m using is not too complicated as the first one but I seldom use it. Visit vixy.net and you will immediately come to face with an address bar. Just copy the link of the YouTube video you want to download to it and select what video format you want and click on start.
Converting the video will be dependent on your internet connection speed. Once conversion is finished, download the file and save it to wherever you want.
It’s as simple as that but I really like the first way better. I’m just used to having that little three-colored icon and when it stars to animate, I just can’t help ignoring it.

Posted by ark at October 15, 2008, 9:19 pmI use Zamzar… I like the program you use, because it is more immediate. With Zamzar, you have to wait until they convert it and email the link to you.

Posted by Kikolani | Poetry, Photography, Blogging Tips at October 20, 2008, 10:48 am@Kristi - I went to Zamzar’s website but I immediately saw the drawback. I felt discouraged when I saw that you have to enter your email ad and wait for the converted/downloaded file to be emailed to you. That’s a hassle for me.
Hi Kuya Ark Im Lokalista member! Hope you can help to other like me buti nalang at naisipan mong ito ipost sa Lokalista furumation anyway Ill try to download i want to learn then kasi how to download vedio in youtube.

Posted by Angelove at November 9, 2008, 5:49 am@Angelove - glad I have helped you. Drop-by often here, marami pa ako’ng ishashare na mga alam ko.
I found you with a google search and will be taking your advice to dump IE and use Firefox. However….I have a pile of videos in my Real Player downloads and every time I click on the file to access them, it dumps me off the internet and out of the file…completely. What’s up with that? I can’t figure it out. I want to access a video I downloaded into my Real Player file, but can’t.
Posted by Ginny at November 12, 2008, 8:02 am@Ginny - they must be streaming videos. I’m sorry but I’m not using Real Player and not really familiar with it. I use WMP.
