Fun at the Beach: Blue Waters Resort, Samal Island
August 2, 2008Mama’s balikbayan friends from London invited her to Blue Waters Resort at Samal Island and me and my wife wanting to take a break from work decided to tag along. Wendy’s sisters and niece also came along. This was last July 19.
We hired a jeepney in going to the boarding area for Samal Island which is in Davao Boat Club, Lanang.
There’s a waiting area where we waited (what else?) for the boat to usher us to Samal Island.
After 5 minutes, the boat arrived and we eagerly walked to it.
It was a clear sunny afternoon so we were glad that our boat ride is smooth-sailing and we were all smiles looking ahead to the beautiful paradise that awaits us.
The ride from mainland Davao to Samal Island took us just 10 minutes and we eagerly disembarked the boat to Blue Waters Resort. We arrived at around 2:30 PM.
I find the resort very cool although not too exceptional. It’s just okay for my standards. (Haha, as if naman meron!) The facilities are good and the surrounding is very nice. If you want a place to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, this place offers a comfy and relaxing atmosphere.
I took some random and goofy pictures at the resort with my wife Wendy and her sisters Marie and Karyn.
We went to the beach after a short rest and that’s when we hit the water that we realized the only drawback to the resort. The beach has beautiful white sand and is clean; the water is very clear, warm and sparkling but the ocean floor is full of corals and sea urchins! We can’t fully enjoy swimming as anywhere we went; we were constantly bothered by the sharp corals and sea urchins which pricked our feet like needles.
So after around 10 minutes of wading in the waters while trying to elude the corals and sea urchins, we decided to relocate to their infinity pool. Parang kagaya din nung pool sa Kiwa Adventure! The pool’s water is seawater pumped from the sea (of course!) so we still felt like we were swimming at the sea but this time, without the pesky corals and sea urchins.
We enjoyed swimming until the sunset.
In the evening, we had a hearty meal at the restaurant and took turns at the microphone for our videoke session and then had some photo session besides the pool.
We went home the next day at around 10:00 AM bringing home with us memories of our wonderful stay at Blue Waters Resort.
After arriving at mainland Davao, we bought durian at Magsaysay Park for P50/kilo and had a brief walk to the nearby Luz Kinilaw located at Quezon Boulevard where we had a sumptuous lunch. Luz Kinilaw is a popular tourist destination as the food more than makes up for its lack of amenities.
We were grateful for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Celia Bagongon and their family for inviting us. Ambait ng pamilya nila at walang kaproble-problema! Halos libre nga kami sa lahat ng gastusin eh. We really had fun!

taga-DAvao ka? been to Bluewaters before but didn’t enjoy the place but based on your pics, they’ve done a lot of improvements already. I might try them again:)
Posted by marites at August 28, 2008, 11:49 am@Tom - yes, it really is a beautiful place and we had fun. Thanks for the visit bro.
@marites - I’m now based at Cotabato City. The only setback in the place are the corals and sea urchins. Good thing there’s an infinity pool.
how was the food and how affordable? i heard they don’t allow guests to bring food when riding the danica boat. also, do you have any idea how deep the pool is—ok lang ba sa mga 5 year olds? thanks lot!
Posted by datelinedavao at September 27, 2008, 10:30 amim planning to visit there with my husband this january.but i wanna know what else they offer beside the beach..anyway i need affordable and clean place wanna stay there for a week..
Posted by malou at October 12, 2008, 11:01 pm@datelinedavao - the food was OK and just within our budget. I think food is allowed kasi may nakasabay kami isang pamilya, para silang nagpicnic kasi may mga dala silang picnic baskets sympre with food un. 10 ft ang pinakamalalim sa pool nila, 4 ft naman ang pinakamababaw.
@malou - beach and pool lang meron dun eh. No horseback riding or other similar activities if you are looking for that. But the place offers a very solemn getaway from the city hustle and bustle.

Hi, I’ve been to Davao City several times but never had a chance to visit Samal Island. I heard it a beautiful place, which was corroborated by your pictures.
I see that everybody enjoyed your outing.
By the way, I got here from i.ph forum.
