Visit to a Bangus Production Site in Glan, Sarangani

July 3, 2008

Along with a colleague at work, I accompanied a USAID personnel in a site inspection to one of our projects in Bgy. Burias, Glan, Sarangani last month. It was my first time to go there since it is not my area of responsibility. It just happened that Dandy is not available so I was assigned to take-over. The barangay is on the southern tip of Glan located along the Sarangani Bay and the road going there was very muddy since it was raining the past few days. I also noticed the simple and quiet lifestyle of the communities we passed by.

The project we visited was a milkfish (bangus) production site. We plan on buying bangus and shrimps there as they are cheaper in the place so we purchased Styrofoam boxes filled with crushed ice at the Gen. Santos City public market. Upon arrival at the project site at around 2:00 PM, we were greeted by the project proponent leader. He related to us how they maintain and sustain the project assistance given to them. It was not yet harvest time but since we want to buy some bangus, they showed us how they do it using a fishnet.

Just compare my fingers to its claw!

Umuwi kami na talagang busog na busog, eat-all-you-can talaga! Hindi na nga ako naghapunan eh. Nakabili din kami ng bangus at only P60/kilo. Ang mura di ba? P120/kilo sa amin eh. Bumili ako ng 5 kilos at ginawa kong tapa pagdating sa bahay.

Hello, gimingaw hinuon ko sa bangus dah! Gen San is really rich in different kinds of fish. One of the most popular is Blue Marlene (hehee, tama ba spelling?). And those huge crabs, luv it!

Btw, got ur mssg thru my contact form. Thank you. I’ll link you up, and be sure to visit again ha, hahaa! :-D

@rhoen - ok baya didto
