Papang’s Birthday Celebration at Kiwa Adventure

March 23, 2008

For a change, and since it happened that my father’s birthday on March 20 fell on a holiday (Maundy Thursday) so we don’t have work, we went to Kiwa Adventure located at Bgy. Upper Kiwanan, Midsayap, Cotabato. We hired a van to go to the place which is a good 1 hour from our home. We got there at around 9:30 AM and we were the first people to arrive. Everyone’s excited upon arrival! Being my second time to go to the place, I pointed to my family where is the best cottage to stay. It is the one at the highest point of the place, overlooking the swimming pool.

We traversed this hanging bridge in going up to our cottage.

My sister and cousin grilled some pork barbeque and ‘tuna panga’.

I helped in preparing the feast. I made a ‘ramona’, an Ilocano delicacy made of grilled face, snout, ears and tongue of a pig chopped into fine bits and mixed with pig’s brain. Sort of like the ’sisig’ although it’s not sizzling. It was also mixed with calamansi, sibuyas, luya and toyo.

We posed for memories before having our lunch. We were already hungry as it is already 11:30 AM. Man, took us 2 hours to prepare the food!

Kainan na!

After having our fill of the sumptuous feast before us, we already prepared to experience what Kiwa has to offer. The place has a wall for climbing, tower for climbing wherein you rappel in going down, two zip lines (AKA slide for life), cable car good for two, cable walk line, swimming pool and a billiards table. Since the place is in a remote area far from the hustle and bustle of city life, you can just stroll in the vicinity and feel the quiet natural charm of the area.

My sister Bona and cousin Gleng-Gleng have succesfully reached the top. There are three difficulties in this wall. The leftmost portion is for beginners, the center for intermediate and the rightmost portion for advanced climbers. The wall is 35 feet high!

My  brother Edan has also conquered the wall despite his disability in his left foot. That cost me P100 when he was able to beat my challenge that he can’t reach the top.

My cousin Omar hanged on for dear life trying to beat the difficult level but he was unable to do so as his feet failed to take a grip on any of the stones to pull him up. Nice try though.

We really had fun watching the climbers and taking their pictures.

My turn to walk along a cable line more than 100 feet long. Safety gears are a must. Can’t risk to break a leg or arm when you fall huh?

Akala ko madali lang, nakakangawit pala sa kamay, hehe.. I was supposed to walk along the cable back and forth pero hindi ko na kaya ang pabalik. Nakakapagod din eh.

The zip line otherwise known as the ’slide for life’. My sister is feeling the rush. Para kang si Superman, nakaupo nga lang and minus the cape.

A family friend; I forgot her name, who was really thrilled to experience the ’slide for life’. Parang ‘kapit for your life’ ang labas! :-)

I took a relaxing dip at the pool with my wife after the afternoon’s activities.

With my wife and sister. Solo pa namin ang pool. Hindi pa tapos ang mga kasama namin sa kanilang mga adventures eh. Noticed the background? Nasa itaas kasi ng hill ang pool overlooking the activity place at ang tubig from the pool ay flowing pababa, parang falls ba ang effect kung titingnan mo from the other side. Cool di ba? First time ko nakakita ng ganyan dito.

It’s already 5:00 PM when we left the place. We took time to pose for a final memento at the entrance to the place. We really have a very enjoyable stay at Kiwa Adventure. Our arms are already starting to ache from all the effort exerted just to conquer all the obstacles that were offered. Hindi bale na, ang importante eh talagang nag-enjoy kami.
